Research Associate / Senior Research Associate - Cell Biology & Histology

We are looking for an outstanding individual to join its molecular biology and sample preparation team as a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate. This person will interact with scientists from all across the company, and will generate (and obtain), process, characterize, and distribute high-quality biological samples for both internal and external consumption on an ongoing basis.

 

The ideal candidate will have an education background in one or more of the following disciplines; Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, Cancer Biology, or similar. The candidate should have at least 4 years of relevant research experience in an academic or industrial setting. The candidate will apply her/his skills and knowledge of cell biology and histology to optimize and evaluate new methods for sample preparation.

The successful candidate will have proficiency in general histology techniques such as tissue processing, tissue embedding, sectioning OCT/paraffin embedded tissues, slide preparation, and performing a variety of staining techniques, including immunohistochemical procedures, for microscopic evaluation. Proficiency in brightfield/fluorescence imaging and image analysis are also desired.

In addition to technical qualifications, the ideal candidate will be highly goal-oriented, inquisitive, organized, independent, collaborative, willing to learn new techniques and concepts, and be able to thrive in an atmosphere of shifting demands and priorities. 

Key Responsibilities

  •     Assist in the implementation and optimization of electronic sample and reagent inventory tracking system.
  •     Acquire, and maintain an inventory of relevant biological and clinical tissue samples, spanning from fresh mouse tissue to preserved human tumor biopsies 
  •     Assist in the development and optimization of sample preparation procedures/protocols for tissue and single cell genomic assays.
  •     Prepare and provide slides containing tissue sections to multiple product development teams, which includes responsibility for adhering to a tight schedule while maintaining exceptional quality.
  •     Advise and assist R&D scientists with histology experiments and methods.
  •     Assist in training other research associates, technicians, and scientists as required.
  •     Maintain cooperative and professional attitude when interacting with others internally and externally.

Required Skills and Background

  •     BS/MS in one of the following disciplines: Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, Cancer biology, or similar
  •     4+ years of hands-on cell biology and histology experience in an academic or industrial setting.
  •     Experience with provisioning or processing animal models and human clinical samples (tissue, blood, biopsies, fresh frozen, FFPE).
  •     Experience with tissue sectioning: cryostat, microtome, or similar.
  •     Experience with immunostaining (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), and histology
  •     Meticulous attention to detail and strong recordkeeping skills.
  •     Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization, which requires flexibility and a willingness to learn new techniques and concepts.
  •     Committed to total customer satisfaction with outstanding interpersonal skills and professionalism

Desired Skills and Background

  •     Familiarity various tissue types and pathological samples.
  •     Familiarity with neurobiology and/or cancer biology.
  •     Experience with imaging and image processing.
  •     Experience with tissue dissociation, mammalian cell culture, and cell-based assays.
  •     Familiarity with flow cytometry.
  •     Experience with product development/design.
  •     Proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR, DNA sequencing, or similar. 
  •     Familiarity with NGS library preparation and/or NGS data analysis
