10x Genomics to Unveil New Single-Cell Genetic Analysis Product

10x Genomics today announced the launch of a new single-cell analysis product. 10x Genomics CEO Serge Saxonov, PhD, will introduce this new product in detail and discuss the company’s strong performance over the past year at 10 a.m. PT, Tuesday, Jan. 12 at the 34th Annual J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference. This broad application expansion comes just over six months from the commercial availability of the GemCode™ platform.
While genetic sequencing and throughput have advanced greatly in recent years, full access to critical molecular and cellular information has remained out of reach. With its flagship GemCode platform, 10x Genomics unlocked the potential of long-range information, including haplotyping and structural variation detection, enabling researchers to perform comprehensive genomics studies on standard short-read sequencers.
Current customers have produced impressive results with the GemCode platform, which can produce more than 100,000 barcode containing partitions using only approximately 1ng of DNA input. Several customers will be sharing their discoveries at the upcoming Advances in Genome Biology and Technology (AGBT) conference in February.
“The glimpse into the future that 10x provides aligns well with TGen’s mission of rapidly translating genomic discoveries into medical advances that transform patient care. The twin technologies of linked-reads and single-cell genomics will enrich clinical genomics the way color and sound enriched the movies,” said Dr. David Craig of the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen). “The ability to trace mutations or combinations of mutations to their parent of origin, as well as expression events to the same cell, should yield medically important insights and potentially help ensure biologically relevant signals aren’t lost in the noise,” he continued.
The new single-cell product will enable detailed gene-expression profiling on a cell-by-cell basis. This approach could revolutionize single-cell gene expression studies, with high-throughput capacity and simplified workflows. The instrument runtime is just 10 minutes and costs one dollar or less per cell. Researchers can produce 40,000 barcoded single-cell cDNA libraries in a single run.
